Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Belarus Ambassador to Iraq Andrei Savinykh and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus to the Kurdistan Region Fuad Mamand Hamad.
Prime Minister Barzani presented a brief overview of the ISIS war, the influx of an extraordinary number of displaced people, past five years economic and financial crises faced by the Kurdistan Region, improvement in relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, including steps towards resolving outstanding issues, and highlighted opportunities and fields for cooperation between Belarus and the Kurdistan Region.
Ambassador Savinykh commended Kurdistan Region's stability, and expressed his country's desire to further strengthen relations with Iraq and the Region.
Strengthening bilateral ties, especially in the sectors of health, tourism and education including vocational training, was discussed.
Prime Minister Barzani stressed the Kurdistan Region’s desire to further develop its relations with regional countries and the international community based on friendship, peace, and cooperation.
Latest political developments in the wider region were also discussed.
