Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received the UK Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Head of the Diplomatic Service, Sir Simon McDonald, British Consul-General in the Kurdistan Region, Martin Warr and their accompanying delegation.
Prime Minister Barzani presented a brief overview of the ISIS conflict, post-ISIS situation and the conditions of internally displaced persons and refugees in the Kurdistan Region, including the reconstruction of their areas to enable them to return to their places of origin.
They discussed relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom and the political, security and economic situation of Iraq. They also highlighted the tolerance and coexistence among various ethnic and religious communities and their protection in the Kurdistan Region.
Regarding relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, Prime Minister Barzani stressed the need to resolve outstanding issues in accordance with the Iraqi federal Constitution.
Ways to stabilize security in Iraq with the support of the international coalition and the political process in the Kurdistan Region were also discussed.
